Q: What is the advantage of a Landscape Design when I can tell a contractor my ideas for free?
A: This is a great question and by far the most frequently asked. There are three distinct advantages of having a professional design and they are: Overall Cost Savings, Having a detailed plan, and Being able to go at the pace you desire.
Cost Savings - Having a detailed plan will save you money on the whole of the project because there is a specific plan created for you through effective communication and a detailed Design Program. In short, no expensive mistakes to rectify from poor communication or planning.
Detail - Knowing the measurements and the planting plan for your design allow you to take control of the project. You can oversee the installation process if you have a contractor, or you can tackle the project with your own two hands, knowing your measurements and specific plants needed for the project.
Your Own Pace - Contractors, while timely, aren't always cost-effective. Many people nowadays prefer to do home improvement projects on their own to save money. Not only does doing it yourself cut down on labor costs drastically, it gives a feeling of satisfaction and pride. A detailed design provides you with the information you need to complete small phases of a project at your discretion and be confident that everything will come together the way it was meant to.

Q: Why should I get a design for a DIY project? I know what I want.
A: Some people are very comfortable and confident doing DIY projects and that is great! Many people, however, only have small portions of their projects figured out. Too often, I have seen these projects conclude with less than desirable results ranging from mismatched themes, to poor spacial relation, and even projects that never get completed due to frustration, project costs, or both. Having a plan, even for a simple project, will many times make the difference between loving your completed space and tolerating a partially done one.

Q: What is the average cost of a Landscape project?
A: This is a question that I routinely answer, even though it does not directly pertain to the design portion of the project. The average cost expectancy of a landscape project is typically twelve to fifteen percent of the property value, home included.

Q: How much do you charge?
A: Each project is different in scope and detail, so there is not a blanket price. My rate is $20/HR with a $50 charge for each consultation. I do ask for a portion of the estimated design cost at the first consultation, with the remainder of the fee being squared up upon delivery of your design.
